I’m an avid reader, writer, and life-long mistake-maker. I hope you are, too.
I love to write!
My short stories have appeared in many magazines and anthologies, including The Year’s Best Science Fiction (21), The Year’s Best Fantasy and Horror (12), New Micro: Exceptionally Short Fiction, The Best Alternate History Stories of the 20th Century, and The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction.
My first two novels, A Small and Remarkable Life and Valley of Day-Glo, both received nominations for Best Science Fiction Novel of the Year. Additionally, I’m honored to be a World Fantasy Award nominee, a two-time Hugo Award nominee, and, most recently, runner-up for the 2023 Calvino Prize through the University of Louisville Creative Writing program.
I’ve worked many jobs, starting as a paperboy at age 14, a dishwasher at a Catholic seminary, a construction worker, a creative writing professor, an education director for a non-profit literary center, an indie bookstore owner, and (at present) a communications specialist in corporate America.
